Aik Berik Trekking Trail
Overview of the Aik Berik Trekking Trail
The Aik Berik Trail is one of the most scenic and less crowded routes to Mount Rinjani, featuring lush rainforests, diverse wildlife, and breathtaking crater views. Located in Central Lombok, this trail is an excellent choice for those seeking a challenging yet peaceful trek through Rinjani National Park’s untouched landscapes.
Unlike the Sembalun or Senaru routes, the Aik Berik Trail does not reach Rinjani’s summit (3,726m) but instead leads trekkers to Plawangan Batu Belah (Crater Rim) at 2,600 meters, offering spectacular panoramic views of Segara Anak Lake and Mount Barujari.
This trail is perfect for nature lovers, as it passes through pristine forests, waterfalls, and rich flora and fauna before reaching the crater rim
Rest Stops Along the Aik Berik Trail
The Aik Berik Trail includes three key rest stops (Pos) before reaching Plawangan Batu Belah (2,600m). Each stop provides trekkers with a place to rest, hydrate, and enjoy the natural beauty of the trail.
Pos 1 – Monte (800m) – The Waterfall Zone
- The trail begins at Aik Berik village (600m), passing through dense tropical forests and stunning waterfalls.
- At Pos 1 (Monte, 800m), trekkers can take a break near crystal-clear streams and listen to the sounds of the jungle.
- The trail remains relatively easy in this section, allowing trekkers to enjoy the lush greenery and fresh mountain air.
Pos 2 – Kayuk Malang (1,400m) – The Transition Zone
- The terrain gradually shifts from dense rainforest to more open landscapes, providing the first clear views of Mount Rinjani.
- Kayuk Malang is an ideal resting point, offering shade under large trees and cool breezes.
- This section is home to wildlife such as monkeys, exotic birds, and unique plant species found only in Rinjani National Park.
Pos 3 – Cemara (1,850m) – The Pine Forest
- As the trail gains elevation, trekkers enter a beautiful pine forest (Cemara means “pine” in Indonesian).
- The air becomes cooler and fresher, making this an excellent spot to rest and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere.
- Trekkers often stop here for snacks and hydration before the final push to the crater rim.
Plawangan Batu Belah (Crater Rim, 2,600m) – A Stunning Viewpoint
Reaching Plawangan Batu Belah (2,600m) is the ultimate reward of the Aik Berik Trekking Trail. This crater rim viewpoint offers:
